Hyderabad Mayor, Bonthu Rammohan said all efforts would be made to transform open places owned by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, besides those owned by other organisations into playgrounds by providing basic amenities.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the summer camp at Victory Playground here on Monday, the City Mayor said that all measures were being taken up to make Hyderabad a sports city.
There is sufficient sports infrastructure in the city to hold national and international events. If need be more funds would be allocated for development of sports and upgrading existing facilities in the city, he said.
Later, at a meeting with
officials, GHMC Commissioner, B Janardhan Reddy directed them to ensure optimum utility of the sports complex and stadiums in the city.
Crores were invested in constructing the sports complexes and stadiums. Most of the facilities were unoccupied after the two sessions from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. and the occupancy needs to be increased, he said to the officials.
Reddy directed officials to promote the Pay and Play scheme, facilitating the people to hire the playgrounds and sports complexes on hourly basis on different days. He wanted the facilities to be utilized only for sports and games and added that the dearth of coaches will be addressed shortly.
