Hyderabad: Adding to the list of companies preferring Hyderabad for setting up their global centres, smartphone brand OPPO has come up with its first ever R&D centre in the country at Hyderabad on Saturday.
The R&D centre is the fourth such facility and the largest outside China. This will contribute towards bringing innovation and advanced technologies to India, said Tasleem Arif, Vice President and R&D Head, OPPO India.
The India centre has 100 people now including 50 engineers and remaining on the testing side. It plans to increase the capacity in days to come depending on the demand from the consumer side.
OPPO has always attached importance to R&D and will build upon its global focus through the centre in India, he said adding that OPPO will be looking at driving several innovations at the Hyderabad centre. The focus will be on software development, implementation and
localisation for Indian consumers. It will also focus on device quality, he said.
“The Hyderabad centre will help us bring future products as well as help us build a local ecosystem for smartphone devices. India is an important market for us. We aim to deliver a seamless smartphone experience to our consumers. We are looking forward to filing new patents for new technologies,” he said.
OPPO R&D Centre will look up to the IITs and other technology institutions for the manpower.
OPPO has increased its focus on innovation and R&D and recently announced a global investment of Renminbi 10 billion (about Rs 10,411 crore) towards the R&D space for 2019. With this, OPPO will integrate its supply chain and build on its technical expertise to enhance the company’s technological capabilities and develop a range of smart devices, including smart watches and smart home technologies, he said.
