The Osmania University (OU) administration on Saturday said the University hostels were closed from January 8 to 16 to avoid any impending health crisis due to the Omicron variant that has high transmissibility.
The decision was also in compliance with the State government orders to close educational institutions during the period, the OU said in a press release.
“It is inevitable for students staying in hostels to mingle and also share common physical spaces increasing the chances
of contracting and spreading the virus. On campus, the university infrastructure might not be able to tackle any crisis arising due to the outbreak of the virus,” it said.
Further, the university intends to utilize the short vacation to undertake maintenance works and it has already instructed officials concerned to commence the works, the OU said.
The university officials appealed to all students to cooperate with the administration and not to expose themselves to any health risks.
