Demanding postponement of the semester examinations that are scheduled to commence on February 18, a large number of students of the OU staged a dharna on the campus on Friday.

According to protesters, the university examination branch scheduled the third semester examinations for second year students even before the completion of the syllabus. As per students, some departments, including in the Science College, still have 40 per cent syllabus to be covered. They demanded the administration to reschedule the exams to the first week of

March.

"The examination branch scheduled the exams when there is a lot of syllabus to be covered. For instance, 40 per cent of the syllabus is still pending in my department. Moreover, the administartion is mandating 70 per cent attendance to sit for the exams, forcing students to skip their competitive exams coaching when the university itself has been offering classes via Civil Services Academy," said Ashwan Kumar, a student of Geography departement.

Students said though university registrar Prof G Naresh Reddy held talks with protesters, there was no positive outcome.
