Former Head of Sustainable Development Communications at World Bank, Sarwat Hussain, alumni of Department of Communication and Journalism, Osmania University, passed away at Washington DC in the early hours of Monday, a press release said. Sarwat served at the World Bank as Head of Communications, World Bank Agriculture Global Practices. He did his B.Com (1983), BCJ (1987) and MCJ (1989) from OU.
Later, Sarwat went on to do his Masters in Mass Communication at Texas Tech University, Lubbock and joined the World Bank in the Communications Department at its headquarters in Washington DC in 1993. Before moving to the USA, Sarwat Hussain worked with the ICRISAT, Hyderabad as a Secretary to the Resource Management Program.

Bank he held a variety of editorial, communications and management positions in the sustainable development Vice Presidency and with global programs such as the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and Global Environment Facility (GEF).
Recently in November, Sarwat Hussain along with his wife Vidya had visited OU to endow the Dean of Social Sciences Gold Medal to honour the memory of his parents, late Major S.M. Hussain (Retd) and Amina Begum. The Dean of Social Sciences Gold Medal shall be awarded from 2022 to a student who passes the MCJ in First Division, in first attempt, securing the highest aggregate marks at the final examination conducted by the Osmania University.
