There has been an overwhelming response for Hyderabad Metro rail smart cards. As many as 7,000 smart cards were sold in four Metro stations in just two days. L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad started selling smart cards on Sunday and on the first day itself, about 2,200 cards were sold.
Smart card sales are now confined to only four metro stations, Nagole, Tarnaka, Prakashnagar and SR Nagar. From November 29, the cards would be available at all the 24 Metro stations on the Miyapur-Nagole route.
People queued up for buying smart cards for Metro rail at some stations such as Tarnaka and SR Nagar, where more than 2,000
cards were sold. People also took selfies after buying the cards.Commuters have to pay Rs 200 for the initial purchase, including Rs 100 deposit. It can be recharged up to Rs 3,000 at one time. In the near future, L&T is planning to introduce online recharge facility for smart cards.
The municipal administration department officials said that smart cards would be extended for 16 services including feeder buses being introduced by RTC, MMTC trains and other services such as banking.Apart from selling the cards at Metro stations, the L&T is also planning to make them available at select stores.
