A Kolkata-Bengaluru Indigo Airlines flight was diverted to Hyderabad on Wednesday due to a medical emergency on-board.
Flight 6E 716 landed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) around 12.24 am after flier Bakul Sheikh (46) complained of chest pain and breathlessness. Sheikh was later rushed to Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills where his condition is critical.
"The patient was brought to the hospital at 5 am on Thursday with breathing difficulty and cardiac failure. He is on ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). His condition is critical and prognosis guarded," an Apollo official said.
Airport authorities confirmed the incident. "On
landing at Hyderabad airport, the passenger escorted by his three friends and Indigo staff, was rushed to the airport medical unit. After thorough ex amination, he was taken to a nearby hospital. Indigo is in touch with the passenger's fa mily," a statement re leased by the carrier said.
The airline said that Sheikh, who did not declare his medi cal condition during check-in was admini stered medical help on-board before the captain-in-command requested the Air Traffic Control's permission for a priority landing at Hyderabad airport.
