Mon 24 Feb 2020, 12:13:23
The 10-day Pattana Pragathi aimed at grounding development works in municipalities and municipal corporations across Telangana will kick start on Monday.

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao will launch the programme from Mahabubnagar. “Efforts will be made to increase citizen participation and improve civic amenities through Pattana Pragathi,” the Minister said on Sunday.

He asked elected representatives from municipalities, corporations and officials across the State to achieve the targets set by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

Rama Rao directed the municipal authorities to chalk out ward-wise town development action plans. He also issued guidelines for the appointment of one special officer for each ward. Stressing the need for people’s participation in urban development, he

said ward committees must meet once in three months to discuss issues and implement the decisions. He called upon newly elected members to make use of the opportunity provided by voters and fulfill the aspirations of the Chief Minister.

The action plan for the 10-day programme includes a sanitation schedule, drinking water supply, road maintenance, greenery, setting up of nurseries and identifying sites to construct toilets. Rama Rao also suggested preparation of a ‘yearly calendar’ for taking up steps to improve health of the citizens through several preventive measures. He called for taking up environmental protection measures during the programme and said steps must be taken to stop dumping solid waste and construction scrap into water bodies. He also wanted that soaking pits be constructed in every housing colony.
