The Pollution Control Board officials have decided to renovate the Noor Mohammed Kunta near Kattedan Industrial Estate in Rajendranagar.The principal secretary, forest and PCB officials held a meeting on Wednesday on making Noor Mohammed Kunta pollution-free.
Telangana state PCB officials said that they were implementing Capacity Building for Industrial Pollution Management Project (CBIPMP) of MoEF taken up with the assistance of the World Bank. The Noor Mohd Kunta-Kattedan Industrial Estate (NMK-KIE) area, Rajendranagar mandal will be remediated as a pilot project for the country.
The works consist of removing the polluted sediment from the Kunta, swamps and drains
followed by containing the sediment using geotextile material and placing it all along the bund of the lake. Further, the existing Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) will be upgraded to 8 MLD from the existing 4 MLD so that all the waste water generated in the KIE area is treated before discharging it into the lake.
This will ensure that the lake is not further deteriorated and the benefits of clean water body in the area will be accrued to the community.To ensure cleanliness of the lake after the remediation, solid waste management in Kattedan Industrial Area is must. TSPCB has fenced the central open area located in the Industrial Estate to prevent dumping of solid waste.
