The Hyderabad traffic police introduced penalty point system for traffic violations under the Motor Vehicles Act in the three city police commissionerates -Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda. -from Tuesday .
On the first day itself, traffic cops booked 1,065 offenders. Of these, 998 offences were committed by two-wheeler riders.
According to the new rules, the driving licence of a person who accrues more than 12 penalty points in two 24 months, will be suspended for a period of one year.
Those who continue to drive even after their licences have been suspended will be imprisoned for up to three months.
Across the city , Goshamahal and Malakpet were high on the list of offenders, with 90 and 92 cases, respectively .Thirty-seven trucks, 19 fourwheelers and 11 three-wheelers were also booked by cops in different parts of the city .
On April 24, the state government had issued a GO introducing the penalty point system under the Motor Vehi cles Act.
