The Phase-III human clinical trails for Covaxin has begun at Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad on Monday. A medical team at NIMS said that the vaccine will be given for 600 volunteers in the phase-III and will be monitored closely. Phase-I and II trails have said to be successful as no volunteer developed any sign of illness.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is planning to bring the vaccine by
February. The vaccine is being jointly developed by Bharat Biotech and ICMR.
Bharat Biotech approached Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) on October 2 for the phase-III trails of Covaxin and the permission was accorded at SEC meeting held in New Delhi on October 19. The phase-III human trails of Covaxin are being carried out at 19 places including Delhi, Mumbai, Patna, Odisha and Lucknow.
