Justice Vinod Kumar of the Telangana High Court on Friday adjourned to Tuesday the petition which sought permission to conduct ‘Million March’ at Necklace Road on Saturday.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) against CAA and NRC and Kalia Ulha Hussain Memorial Foundation filed two separate writ pleas against the interference of police with the constitutional rights guaranteed to the citizens. The petitioners sought permission for ‘Million March’ at Necklace road on December 28 opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act and the proposed National Register of Citizenship.
When the counsel representing the police told the court that the permission petition filed by the JAC was already rejected,
the judge said police interference cannot be challenged but the rejection of permission can be challenged. The JAC had given a representation to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Zone) on December 21 seeking permission for the march on December 28. The police informed that the permission was rejected on December 26 evening.
When the judge said police protection was needed for the march, the JAC said it would amend the relief sought and challenge the rejection of permission. The judge questioned the locus standi of the Kalia Ulha Hussain Memorial Foundation for filing the writ petition based on representation given by the JAC and dismissed their writ plea.
