Thu 26 Dec 2024, 11:32:49
The police arrested State SC and ST Commission former chairman Errolla Srinivas from his residence in West Marredpally on Thursday, for allegedly obstructing the Jubilee Hills inspector from performing his duties last month. BRS MLA MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy was also arrested and released on bail in connection with the same case earlier.

BRS sources said the police arrived at Srinivas’s residence on at around 5 am on Thursday morning, to arrest him. They stated that the police had neither issued a notice or a warrant no notice was issued as per law.
Following a call from the family members, several BRS leaders and the party legal cell members too reached his house and condemned the police action.

They demanded the police to produce an arrest warrant or leave. A heated argument ensued between the police and the BRS cadre, even as others stood guard to prevent the police from

entering Srinivas’s flat. However, the police managed to arrest Srinivas and took him to the police station.

Speaking to the media on the occasion, Srinivas termed his arrest under false charges as an attempt to stifle the opposition voices by the Congress government. He declared that he would continue to question the government on its false promises and failed policies, notwithstanding the cases filed against him. He questioned the need for the police to knock his doors at around 4 am to arrest him and terrorise his family.

Meanwhile, BRS working president KT Rama Rao, senior MLA T Harish Rao and several other leaders condemned the arrest and demanded for his immediate release. They said the Congress government is strategically arresting the BRS leaders during holidays, to deprive the latter an opportunity to approach the courts for justice.
