Police gear up for GHMC elections

A large police contingent will be deployed in the city on the polling day of the GHMC elections on Tuesday to facilitate free and fair elections, according to Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy. The Commissioner at a media conference here on Sunday, the officials had identified as many  777 polling stations as sensitive and 232 as hypersensitive areas. 
“After analysing the incidents that took place during polling in the past, identification of sensitive and hyper-sensitive polling stations have been identified,” he said. A total of 25,624 police personnel including 162 platoons of Armed Reserve and Telangana State Special Police, 3,000 NSS volunteers and 1,400 NCC Cadets will be deployed. 
The commissioner said except the



voters, contesting candidate of the respective division, polling agent and election agent concerned, outsiders will not be allowed to enter the polling station. “There will be a webcasting in 3,200 polling stations which will be connected to Command and Control at the headquarters for monitoring. 
All CC Cameras installed under community project will be utilised for monitoring the areas,” the commissioner said. Section 144 will be imposed in entire city. Gathering of five or more persons, carrying of instruments which may be used as weapons, is prohibited. As many as 80 shadow teams will be operating along with the 60 striking forces and 67 special striking forces to curb unlawful activities and ensure fair elections, the commissioner added.
