One of the minarets of the historic Charminar suffered minor damage when a portion of its stucco work of lime plaster fell off around midnight on Wednesday.
According to locals, around 11.50 p.m, a portion of the recently repaired minaret on the southwest side of the monument gave way and fell within the compound with a thud. As it was night, there were no persons in the Charminar and
there were no casualties.
Soon curious onlookers gathered at the place to have a glimpse of the damaged portion. The local police inspected the premises and spoke to the officials of the Archaeological Survey of India – the custodian – of the monument. On Thursday morning, officials of the ASI will visit and inspect the premises.
