Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) managing director N.V.S. Reddy explained the salient features and the importance of the Airport Metro project to prospective bidders during a pre-bid meeting held here on Wednesday.

The meeting was a sequel to the global tenders invited for selection of EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contractor for the Hyderabad Airport Metro project. Technical teams from 13 national and global firms participated in the meeting, including L&T, Alstom, Siemens, Tata Projects, IRCON, RVNL, BEML and PANDROL Rahee Technologies.

After the meeting, Reddy said most preliminary works such as the survey, peg marking, alignment fixation and others are completed and soil testing is underway.

"As per the updated survey and alignment fixation, the 31 km corridor between Raidurg metro station and the airport terminal station will have an elevated portion

of 29.3 km and an underground portion of 1.7 km. It will feature nine stations, including one underground metro station adjacent to the airport terminal.

The queries of prospective bidders on civil structures, rolling stock (trains), signalling and train control systems and others were discussed at length and doubts clarified," he said.

Reddy said the project will cost an estimated Rs 6, 250 crore and will be funded entirely by the state government, with 10 per cent contributions each from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and GMR Airport.

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and municipal administration minister K.T. Rama Rao are monitoring the progress of the project and the selected EPC contractor will start the ground works by September 2023 and complete the project in three years, he added.
