The advisory board on Wednesday rejected jailed legislator T Raja Singh’s appeal to revoke the detention orders against him under the Preventive Detention Act.
The Hyderabad Police had opposed T Raja Singh’s plea and claimed that 101 criminal cases had been registered against the legislator, of which 18 were related to communal offences.
The Advisory Committee agreed with Hyderabad Police's objection and quashed T Raja Singh’s plea.
T Raja Singh was arrested in August for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Prophet
Muhammad. An FIR was lodged against him after massive protests erupted at several locations in Hyderabad, demanding action against him.
Soon after his remarks sparked a row, T Raja Singh was also suspended by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The protests were triggered by a video on social media, in which T Raja Singh was heard making offensive remarks about Islam and Muslims. The Goshamal MLA had released a video against stand-up comic Munawar Faruqui, claiming that the latter had hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and made remarks against the artist and his mother.
