Flight services resumed on Friday at Puducherry airport after an eight-month hiatus, with IndiGo Airlines launching operations to Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The inaugural flight from Bengaluru, carrying 74 passengers, arrived at 12:20 PM. Puducherry Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy welcomed the passengers with flowers and sweets. The Airports Authority of India fire crew accorded the aircraft a ceremonial water cannon salute. The flight departed for Hyderabad at 12:45 PM with 63 passengers on board.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister N.
Rangasamy said that discussions are ongoing with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister regarding the acquisition of land near the airport for expansion. He expressed optimism that once the expansion is completed, more flights will operate from Puducherry.
The Chief Minister also informed that the government is exploring the possibility of introducing flights to Madurai, Thoothukudi, Kochi, and Kozhikode in the future. The return flight from Hyderabad landed in Puducherry at 4:50 PM and departed for Bengaluru at 5:10 PM.
