Rachakonda Cybercrime police urges the victims to come forward and lodged complaints

The Rachakonda Cybercrime police have arrested 15 persons in the last 50 days, including during the lockdown period and urged the victims to come forward and lodge complaints.

Bearing a grudge over a previous enmity or a trivial issue, the suspects are resorting to harassment.

“Due to the fewer options available in the pandemic and lockdown period, majority of the people are stuck with smart phones and computers. They include miscreants who are turning to social media platforms to harass their targets. They are creating fake social media accounts either of their own or by impersonating the victims,” said a senior official from Rachakonda Cybercrime Cell.

Of late, it was observed that in most cases, strained friendships or relationships between schoolmates, classmates,



office colleagues, college mates or those from the same residential colonies were resulting in such cybercrime cases.

In some cases, differences between lovers or couples end up in women deciding to cease their relationship.

“This sudden break-up or women avoiding their friends or partners and stopping to chat or talking over the phone is leading to building up a grudge. Thus with a malicious intent to harass, miscreants tend to indulge in cybercrime by creating fake profiles and targeting them,” the official said.

The Rachakonda Cybercrime police has warned such harassers to keep away from women. “The victims need not suffer in silence and seek police help to keep a check on such activities. We will nab them,” they said.
