Five persons allegedly involved in cricket betting were arrested by the Rachakonda police on Tuesday. The police seized Rs 14.92 lakh, a laptop and mobile phones from them.
Acting on a tip-off, the Special Operations Team of the Rachakonda Police along with the Chaithanyapuri police raided a house at Mohannagar and busted the racket organised by one Bairamal Sridhar. Apart from Sridhar, the others arrested were Sambram Ramanjaneyulu, Jajula Ramu Goud, Boinpally Chatrapathi and Gouni
Kalyan.
“The gang was organising online cricket betting through online apps,” Rachakonda Additional Commissioner G Sudheer Babu said, adding that the gang had collected money from punters during the T20 matches.
“They allowed participants to place bets on every ball during the matches and allowed them to change their predictions session wise. Several people were lured into placing bets on the matches by the gang with the help of punters,” he said.
