The Rachakonda She Teams police said they had caught 117 persons, including 70 minors, for harassing women at different public places in a 15-day period from November 16. She Teams DCP Usha Vishwanath said the victims can approach the police without fear if they are harressed.
The accused were found stalking girls and women and harassing them, They were taken into custody and along with evidence and produced before a court.
All of them were counselled by the Bhumika Women's Collective (NGO). Police said they had
booked four criminal cases and 47 petty cases, depending on the seriousness of the offence.
Police said 24 victims were harrassed on mobile phone calls, 30 through WhatsApp calls and messages, 18 over social media apps. In another 63 complaints, the women were directly harassed.
The arrested include a media person, an app-based autorickshaw driver, and an accused harassing minor students by filming them on mobile phones and on social media, police said.
