BJP leader M Raghunandan Rao will contest the bypoll for Dubbaka Assembly constituency, on behalf of his party. His candidature was announced by the party in Delhi on Tuesday night, along with candidatures for the bye-elections in 27 other Assembly constituencies and one Parliamentary constituency across the country.

The bypoll was necessitated following the sudden demise of sitting TRS MLA Solipeta Ramalinga Reddy due to illness in August.

Raghunandan Rao who is a lawyer by profession, has already started his campaign in the constituency. He served as the BJP’s official spokesperson in the State during

the tenure of Dr K Laxman as its State president. He contested from the Dubbaka constituency twice earlier in 2014 and and 2018, but lost both the times ending up in third position. This will be his third attempt.

Raghunandan Rao is being fielded against Ramalinga Reddy’s wife Sujatha whose candidature from TRS was declared by TRS President and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao recently. Former TRS leader Cheruku Srinivas Reddy, son of former Minister Cheruku Muthyam Reddy, joined the Congress on Tuesday and is likely to contest in the bypoll on Congress party’s ticket.
