Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today visited Bandlapalli in the district where prestigious National Employment Guarantee Scheme was launched 10 year ago during the previous UPA regime.

During the visit to Bandlapalli, Rahul Gandhi interacted with the villagers and accepted applications from laborers, who worked under the scheme. Later he had lunch with laborers. The Congress leader informed the villagers how the Centre was neglecting this scheme, which provided works in rural areas.

The UPA government had inaugurated national employment guarantee scheme in the village in 2006. Rahul Gandhi, along with former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh arrived at Puttaparthi airport in Anantapur district from Delhi. Former prime minister later left for Puttaparthi to pay homage at Puttaparthi Saibaba Samadhi and later reached to Bandlapalli.  

Meanwhile, former Union minister Kotla Surprakash Reddy had to face embarrassing moments when he was prevented by securing personnel to sit on the dais where Rahul Gandhi was scheduled to address a public meeting. Peeved at the incident Kotla left the meeting place. Irked with this ,Kurnool District Congress leaders and supporters of Kotla locked Congress office and demanded intervention of high command.
