The city experienced some respite from the oppressive heat of the past few days, as summer thundershowers drenched several parts on Sunday.
Thanks to the dark clouds which enveloped many parts of the city in the evening, the weather turned pleasant and the neighbourhoods also reported hailstorms along with rain.
Residents and commuters in different parts of the city, including Mallapur, ECIL, Moula Ali, Dr. AS Rao Nagar, Sainikpuri, Uppal, parts of Secunderabad also witnessed hailstones raining down on them in the evening.The IMD Hyderabad in its website said that hailstorm was reported from isolated places in Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Siddipet districts.
Thundershowers were also accompanied by gales and hailstones in some parts. As a result of the strong winds, some areas reported incidents of trees getting
uprooted and falling on electricity poles.
At Ambedkarnagar in Golnaka, the GHMC reported that heavy winds and hailstones resulted in two electricity poles falling but nobody was injured. At VST Road near Ramnagar Gundu, two electricity poles got bent due to the intensity of the winds. At Uppal area near Genpact, authorities reported that a tree was uprooted.
Reports of water stagnation also came in from some parts of the city and Ravindra Nagar colony region in Habsiguda had almost knee deep rain water accumulated for some time.
According to IMD officials, it is normal for hailstones to occur along with thundershowers and strong winds during summer. There are chances of thundershowers occurring by evening with a possibility of rain in parts of the city on Monday also, officials said.
