Mon 02 Sep 2019, 12:37:48
The sudden downpour on Sunday evening left many streets in the city under sheets of water and affected traffic movement, besides catching many festival-shopping citizens off guard in different areas.

Traffic police and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation personnel swung into action and cleared water stagnation at several places. At the AC bus stop in Madhapur, GHMC monsoon emergency teams used water pumps to remove water and ensure free flow of traffic.

Motorists had a tough time driving through knee-deep water at Uppal and neighbouring areas. Due to the rains, a tree got uprooted at Golden Tulip Estates near Sanskriti School. GHMC officials claimed no untoward incidents were reported.

Till 7 pm, Madhapur recorded the highest rainfall of 32.3 mm, followed by Moosapet, West Marredpally and Borabanda, which received 28.5 mm.

According to Met Department, there could be one or two spells of rains or thundershowers on Monday. Also, for the last few days, there has been a slight dip in the maximum temperatures in the city.

Under the influence of multiple weather systems, rain occurred

at most places over the State. Very heavy rain occurred at isolated places in Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Kamareddy, and Warangal Rural, while heavy rain occurred at isolated places in Warangal Urban, Medak, Mancherial, Mahabubabad, Nagarkurnool, Peddapalle and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts over the last 24 hours. Over the past 24 hours, Mogullapalle in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, Bhiknur in Kamareddy district and Chennaraopet in Warangal Rural district, received the highest rainfall of 14 cm each. Tadwai in Kamareddy also received 12 cm rain during the period.

According to the IMD officials, an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over central parts of Madhya Pradesh, resulting in wide-spread rains in the State. Further, another upper air cyclonic circulation persists over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of westcentral Bay of Bengal and south Odisha north Andhra Pradesh coasts. “Under its influence, a low pressure area is very likely to develop over northwest and adjoining West central Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours, resulting in intense rainfall at several places in the State,” the Met officials said.
