Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said it was former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi who had introduced computers in the country and promoted use of technology in different sectors.
Speaking after unveiling a statue of the former prime minister in front of the Secretariat, he said there was nothing wrong in installing the late Rajiv Gandhi’s statue amidst former prime ministers Indira Gandhi and PV Narasimha Rao statues and the Martyrs Memorial. He also said the Gandhi family had not taken any positions after the demise of Rajiv Gandhi and had set an example for sacrifices. , he added.
Though he said in the beginning that the unveiling of the statue was not a venue to speak politics, Revanth
Reddy still challenged the BRS citing its protests against the statue.
“Let the BRS declare the date for relocating the statue. They will be taught a fitting lesson,” he said.
Stating that he wanted to bring out a few things since some political forces were protesting against the statue, he reeled out the history of the sacrifices by Jawaharlal Nehru and the Gandhi family. Indira Gandhi did not take any post while Nehru was the PM of the country, he said while responding to statements on family politics, and also said Rajiv Gandhi had taken the reins of the country when the nation was in deep crisis. It was Rajiv Gandhi who introduced a technological revolution in the country, he said.
