Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar on Thursday visited and reviewed the security arrangements for the repolling of GHMC Old Malakpet division at the polling station at Chaderghat.
Accompanied by Anil Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) and M Ramesh, Joint Commissioner of Police, East Zone, the Commissioner reviewed the polling process and said the polling which started at 7 am at the 69 polling stations was peaceful under the supervision of the senior police officers in the zone. “We have provided security with patrolling and police bandobast in all the sensitive areas,” Anjani Kumar said.
As per reports, till the 6 pm 38.46 per cent polling was recorded in the division.
The decision for repoll was taken after polling officials noticed that ballot paper for the division on
Tuesday was wrongly printed with the symbol of the CPI candidate printed as ‘Hammer, Sickle and Star’ instead of ‘Ears of Corn and Sickle’, the SEC had said in its orders.
The printing error of the symbol was noticed by General Observer of the Malakpet circle, who reported the discrepancy to the higher authorities.
The division has 54,655 voters including 27,889 male and 26,763 female voters. There are 69 polling stations in the divisions and 12 micro-observers monitored the poll proceedings while web casting was arranged at 23 polling stations. In view of the repoll, elaborate security arrangements have been made in the division.
Among the 54,655 voters, till 6 pm reports, 21,022 voters had exercised their franchise in the division, officials said.
