A retired engineer who was posing as a gazetted officer and cheating people by issuing signatures for Aadhaar enrolment and updating forms was arrested along with three of his accomplices.
The Hyderabad Task Force along with the Chatrinaka police arrested P Ravi Kumar (56), who took voluntary retirement as assistant engineer from the Irrigation department in the erstwhile AP government, and seized Aadhaar applications, three rubber stamps and a fake gazetted officer identity card.
Three of his accomplices, T.Shastry (37), owner of TJR Online Service at Chatrinaka, Syed Aijaz Ali (22), a typist from Banjara Hills and Manikanta (27), a private employee from Kukatpally, too were arrested.
According to the Task Force officials, Ravi, who took voluntary retirement from
government service in 2000, worked briefly as supervisor at construction sites before he plotted to pose as a gazetted officer and cheat people.
“He shared his plan of putting a fake gazetted officer stamp and signature on Aadhaar enrollment and updation forms with Manikanta and Syed Aijaz. They agreed to arrange customers on commission basis,” said an official. As per their plan, Ravi prepared fake gazette office stamps in the name of Deputy Executive Engineer, TSIDC, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad.
“They collected the Aadhaar enrollment and updation forms from customers and took money from them for getting the forms ‘attested’ by a gazetted officer,” the official said, adding that following a tip-off, the police team arrested them and seized fake rubber stamps and identity card.
