Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday urged South Central Railway General Manager Arun Kumar Jain to speed up work on the long-pending Vikarabad-Krishna railway line.

At a meeting at the Secretariat to discuss railway projects, Revanth Reddy said that the line had been long-neglected. Its completion would pave the way for the speedy development of the region. It would also help the state government encourage the setting up of industries along the route, Revanth Reddy told Jain.

The railway ministry had sanctioned the final location survey (FLS) for the Vikarabad-Krishna line in September this year. The line, estimated at 122 km, is projected to cost nearly Rs 2,196 crore.

This line will provide

rail links to unconnected places, particularly in southern Telangana and provide connectivity to major towns like Pargi, Kodangal, Husanabad, Daultabad, Makthal and Narayanpet district headquarters.

The railway ministry had sanctioned nearly 15 FLS for new lines stretching to 2,647 km and estimated to cost Rs 50,848 crore. The FLS for another 11 projects have been sanctioned for doubling, tripling and quadrupling of lines over 2,588 km and is estimated to cost Rs 32,695 crore.

All these projects were pending, Revanth Reddy pointed out. He urged Jain to speed up the implementation of these projects and assured that the government would cooperate with the SCR for the purpose.
