The response was amazing. Several students and
activists turned up in such big numbers. When asked aboutMumbai campuses26-year-old
Prashanth Dontha, a PhD student of economics at the University of Hyderabad
(Uoh), a friend of Rohith Vemula's and a fellow member of the Ambedkar
Student's Association, was also expelled alongside him five days before
Rohith's suicide on Jan 17. He was in the city to support Monday's protest for
Justice for Rohith. The movement is still on. We have given the university and
the government a week's time to respond to our demands. If they do not do so,
we will all—students from universities across the country—go to Delhi next week
for a big protest against the government and the HRD ministry. We have given
this deadline keeping in mind that students should not be under pressure due to
the issue. The struggle has almost completed a month despite which we have not
received any response. We are happy at the way this movement has picked up in
several cities especially in Mumbai, which is the land of Babasaheb, which
still has attachment towards the thoughts that he has propagated. This has
converged into a national movement where we are together demanding justice for
Rohith. The student community is united on this issue. We want justice for the
institutional murder. He Said The ABVP is saying don't bring politics into the
issue. But in reality, they were the ones who brought politics into the issue.
In the case of UoH, The Union Minister who has no jurisdiction in the internal
issues of UoH suddenly became so concerned about these right-wing people, who
had no facts against us. In fact, what Rohith wanted and we all want is
democratising institutes that are now autonomous and autocratic. Despite being
educated, even the top academicians believe in parampara (traditions) and do
not think rationally. Those who speak against this, their voices are crushed
