The state government on Tuesday released Rs 130 crore for the Rs 1 lakh financial aid scheme for minorities. The distribution of cheques to beneficiaries will commence on August 16. The decision was taken at a meeting held by finance minister T. Harish Rao with All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen floor leader in Legislative Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi at Secretariat.

The meeting discussed the issues and assurances given by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao in recent Assembly session. Harish Rao said selection and distribution of beneficiaries would be based on the population proportion of minorities. The minister urged the officials to focus more on the constituencies where the



population of minorities is higher.

The government also released the pending dues of  Rs 17 crore for payment of monthly honorarium to imams and muezzins. Issues relate to release of overseas scholarships, fee reimbursement and scholarships for students, allotment of land for graveyards were also discussed.

Owaisi thanked the CM for implementing several schemes for the minorities and said that AIMIM and BRS would continue to work together for the development of the state. Nearly 25 lakh persons belonging to minority communities had benefited under welfare schemes implemented by BRS government, he said.
