Rs 2,653 Crore Sanctioned For Sangameswara Lift Irrigation Project: Harish Rao

The state government has sanctioned Rs 2,653 crore for constructing the Sangameswara lift irrigation project to irrigate 2.19 lakh acres of farm lands, finance minister T. Harish Rao announced on Wednesday.

At an event, the minister laid the foundation for the project at Munipally in Sangareddy district.

Harish Rao said Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao started giving top priority to agriculture and farmers after Telangana state was formed in 2014. "Chandrashekar Rao is committed to constructing the Sangameswara and Basweswara projects that would irrigate farms with water from the Singur project," he said.

"During the united AP, the governments had shifted Singur water to Hyderabad and the people living in the area faced a tough time due to lack of drinking water. After forming the Telangana state, Chandrashekar Rao took a number



of initiatives over the past 10 years. The government provides water connection to every house by supplying the Godavari water," he said.

The minister added, "With the construction of the Sangameswara project, the farmers of Medak, Nizamabad, Sangareddy, Jogipet, Zaheerabad and Narayanapet will get plenty of irrigation water and they can have two crops per year."

Later, Harish Rao visited the Sadasivapet tahsildar office. He inquired with the revenue staff about the Dharani portal activities and the complaints being received from farmers.

During the time of the minister's inspection, several farmers got registration of their agricultural lands done and obtained the documents. Harish Rao interacted with the farmers on the Dharani portal and gave them the registered documents.
