The Telangana government has allocated Rs 10,000 crore in the 2020-21 budget for the Musi River purification and Musi River Front Project and all other special projects and works in Hyderabad Urban Agglomeration area.
Describing Hyderabad as the jewel of Telangana State, Finance Minister T Harish Rao, presenting his maiden budget in the State Assembly on Sunday, said the government had estimated that Rs 50,000 crore was required in the next five years to take up development works in the capital city which is being transformed into an international city.
The Chief Minister has requested the Centre to grant special funds for the development of Hyderabad, but it had not taken action on the request so far, the Minister said, adding that the city with a 400 year history had achieved name and fame as the most affordable and livable city.
“Hyderabad, which has
moderate climatic conditions and cosmopolitan culture, has been attracting worldwide fame and appreciation. Due to the unscrupulous policies of successive governments in undivided Andhra Pradesh, city life was in turmoil, and facilities had not improved in proportion to the population growth,” he said.
Pointing out Hyderabad Metro Rail had entered the history books as the biggest Metro Rail Project after Delhi, Harish Rao said Hyderabad Metro Rail was earlier operating from Miyapur to LB Nagar, Nagole to Ameerpet and Ameerpet to Rayadurgam. “Recently, Metro Rail commenced its services from Jubilee Bus Station to Imlibun. The remaining five km covering the Old City will be completed at the earliest,” he said, adding that in the second phase, plans are being chalked out for Metro Rail from Rayadurgam to Shamshabad and from BHEL to Lakdikapool.
