Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the victims from Telangana State who died in the boat tragedy on Godavari in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.
Tourists from the State, including 14 from Warangal, two from Mancherial, one from Nalgonda and ten from Hyderabad, were on the ill-fated boat.
Expressing deep shock at the tragedy, Chandrashekhar Rao has asked Panchayat Raj Minister Erabelli Dayakar Rao and MLA Aruri Ramesh to rush to the spot and help the families of the victims there. He also asked Transport Minister P Ajay Kumar to coordinate the relief measures.
The Chief Minister conveyed his deep
sympathies to the members of the bereaved families. Since there were people from Telangana among those dead, he instructed officials concerned to take necessary action.
Municipal Administration Minister K. T Rama Rao also expressed shock over the boat tragedy. Describing the incident as a “terrible accident”, the Minister said he would coordinate with the Andhra Pradesh Ministers on help to be extended to them.
Finance Minister T. Harish Rao described the tragedy as most unfortunate and expressed his condolences. He said the Telangana government would extend all possible help to the kin of victims from Telangana State.
