The Supreme Court Collegium on Wednesday recommended that three additional judges from the Telangana High Court be appointed as permanent judges. They include Justice Alishetty Laxmi Narayana, Justice Anil Kumar Jukanti and Justice Sujana Kalasikam, who all were appointed as additional judges on July 28, 2023. Now, the apex court collegium has given its nod to elevate the three as permanent judges of the Telangana High

Court.

Although permanent judges and additional judges of the High Court perform the same duties and functions, and draw the same emoluments, there is yet a fundamental distinction in the Constitution as regards the tenure. A permanent judge’s tenure extends until the judge attains the age of superannuation of sixty two years, while the tenure of an additional judge is for two years.
