The SC Development
department released Rs 100 crore for the 160 newly-established college hostels
in the state.
The department has
also released Rs 34.15 crore for the Kalyan Lakshmi scheme (KLS) . All the
students in these 160 college hostels will be provided food, cots, books and
water facility. For the women college hostels, security guards will
also be
provided.
The department’s director P Karunakar said that Rs 100 crore would be spent on providing better facilities to students. These funds are in addition to the scholarship amounts. Beneficiaries of KLS will be selected by RDOs. Karunakar added that Rs 34.15 crore would be released in PD accounts of RDOs in all 31 districts.
