Cyber fraudsters cheated a 31-year-old man from the city to the tune of Rs 1 lakh by allegedly promising to book a room at a guest house in Srisailam.

The complainant, who is a private employee, was planning to visit Srisailam temple, therefore contacted a number given on a fake website related to a guest house. The person on the other side, who is suspected to be a scammer, said the cost per room was Rs. 1,000, which the complainant had paid.

Subsequently, he received a call requesting an additional

payment of Rs. 180 towards GST charges. However, since, the victim did not pay the GST amount, the booking was not confirmed.

“The victim then requested a refund of the already paid amount. He was asked to contact a person on a number, where the caller instructed him to pay Rs 1 to initiate the refund process. Trusting the caller, he paid it and received Rs 2 as a token gesture,” said a cybercrime official.

Following which, the fraudster siphoned off the money from the complainant’s bank account.
