After the ministry of defence (MoD) orders on April 12 to end the practice of collecting toll charges, the proposal to stop collection of toll tax from goods vehicles at the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) checkposts has been approved at the SCB meeting held on Wednesday.

The SCB also accepted a proposal to construct an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) with a capacity of 10 KLD on the site of the Cantonment General Hospital in Bolaram. Other accepted proposals included a women’s hostel in Mudfort, the construction of a foot overbridge (FOB) at Shantiniketan Colony in Mahendra Hills, and the construction of libraries at Bowenpally, Trimulgherry, and Bolaram.

Due to the state of the existing libraries, it was decided to construct

new libraries, each on a 500 square yard plot of land. The construction of a women’s hostel for employees was approved and this facility will come up at Mudfort, Secunderabad.

Meanwhile, the proposal related to the installation of statues of late G. Sayanna, a five-time MLA from the Secunderabad Cantonment, was given a nod and the statues will come up near the Secunderabad Club and West Marredpally.

Brigadier K. Somashankar, president of SCB, Malkajgiri MP A. Revanth Reddy, and others attended the SCB board meeting. At the meeting, other civic works such as the maintenance and repair of underground drains, roads, and door-to-door garbage collection were also approved.
