South Central Railway (SCR) has finalised 11 routes on which private players will operate trains, most probably from this year.
According to SCR officials, private entities were likely to oversee on-board activities in the trains and facilities to passengers while the Railways would look after operation costs, maintenance, crew and safety measures.
“We are working on various modalities for operation of private trains and the
tenders will be invited soon. There are also plans for operating Tejus, a semi-high speed train on Lingampalli route,” SCR general manager Gajanan Mallya said.
The routes on which private trains are likely to operate include Lingampalli–Tirupati daily, Cherlapalli–Lingampalli daily, Guntur-Lingampalli daily, Secunderabad–Guwahati biweekly, Cherlapalli–Varanasi weekly and Cherlapalli–Panvel weekly.
