Hyderabad: The Health Department in collaboration with municipal authorities on Sunday successfully conducted the second phase of administering pulse polio drops for children below five years in the State. The drive was inaugurated by Health Minister, Dr. C Laxma Reddy at Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) in Afzal Sagar.

Close to five lakh children in Hyderabad and 36 lakh children throughout the State were expected to get pulse polio drops administered on the first day of the immunisation drive. On the occasion, the Health Minister appreciated the efforts of 95,500 personnel from various departments for participating in the immunisation drive and making it a success.



The first phase of the polio drops administration was taken up on January 28.

The authorities established 22,768 centres for administering polio drops. Special arrangements were made at public places including bus and train stations for administration of polio drops for children travelling with their families. In all, close to 750 transit points were identified for administering polio drops.

To administer polio drops among children who missed out on Sunday, the health authorities will conduct a mop-up exercise for three more days in which the field level workers will conduct door-to-door visits to administer polio drops.
