Section 144 imposed in Bhainsa

Following clashes between two groups in various parts of Bhainsa on Sunday night, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) was imposed in the town as a precautionary measure on Monday, in-charge Superintendent of Police Vishnu S Warrier said.

Warrier said that besides imposing Section 144, a flag march was held, patrolling was intensified and police pickets were posted in several areas to bring the situation in the town under control.

He said that law and order was totally under control and the public need not panic over the situation. In addition to 500 policemen, armed forces were also deployed stepping up security. He said four cases were booked and 28 persons were arrested for their involvement in the clashes. 

Stern action would be taken against the offenders, he said, and sought the cooperation of civilians and requested them to share information promptly. He urged the public not to believe in rumours being spread on social media platforms.

Clashes began when the two groups started pelting stones at each other in Julfekar Galli, Kubheer Road, Ganesh Nagar, Medarigalli, Bus stand localities of the communally sensitive town at around 9.30 pm. Unidentified persons set commercial establishments and vehicles ablaze in the bus stand area. Eight persons



including a Sub-Inspector and a constable were injured in the clashes.

It is learnt that the clashes were triggered by an accident involving two motorcycles, after which some locals raised objections to rash and negligent driving. The clash soon spread to other parts of the town triggering tension. The warring groups were dispersed by policemen who swung into action. Security was supervised by Bhainsa DSP Narsing Rao.

Inspector General of Police (North zone) Y Nagi Reddy said all the persons involved in the violence in Bhainsa will be arrested. He said that the situation in the town is under control and urged the people not to spread rumours. He said that the violence started following a road accident at Zulfeqar lane in Bhainsa around 8.45 pm on Sunday resulting in stone pelting and arson.

Nagi Reddy said that soon after the incident, district SP Vishnu S Warrier along with additional forces rushed to the town and brought the situation under control. The SP has been camping there since Sunday night and monitoring the situation, he said.

“The Police Department will maintain law and order at Bhainsa using stern measures as per law. All the persons involved in the incident will be identified and arrested,” the official said.
