The South Central Railway has taken up the task of transforming Secunderabad, Kacheguda and Vijayawada stations as eco-smart ones by achieving the environment standards of ‘ISO-14001’ laid down by the Bureau of Indian Standards in the form of environment management system.
These three railway stations are among the 36 stations of the Indian Railways that have been taken up for upgradation as per the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
The Secunderabad station has already earned the distinction of being the first one to be certified the ‘Green Railway Station’. It has also received ‘Platinum Rating Certification’ in 2017 and has bagged 6th rank out of 75 A1 category stations in the third-party audit conducted in 2018 by
Quality Council of India (QCI).
The Kacheguda station has also been certified the ‘Green Railway Station’ with ‘Gold Rating’ from the CII-IGBC in 2018 and has been ranked 14th in cleanliness standards, while Vijayawada station too has the same rating. “The green rating is evaluated mainly on the basis of six important parameters viz., sustainable station facility; health, hygiene and sanitation; energy efficiency; water efficiency; smart green initiative; and innovation and development.
In addition to these, the NGT has laid down certain norms and all the three stations are well-placed to fulfil the requirements,” said official spokesperson Ch. Rakesh here on Thursday.
