There are many iconic locations in Hyderabad, and Secunderabad railway station stands among the first ten on the list. For many people from the Telugu States, the entrance façade of the railway station is a distinct memory.
However, the British-era station building is now undergoing a major revamp, and these works to reshape the station, has the entrance façade being demolished. As part of the modernisation of the Secunderabad railway station, the authorities are demolishing the walls of the main entrance of the building, which has a history of
decades.
In 1874, the Nizams first dedicated the Secunderabad Railway Station to the people of the princely state of Hyderabad. The Central government subsequently renovated the structure in 1950. It is now modernising it again, with work beginning in 2023.
Meanwhile, the upgradation works of the railway station are underway at a brisk pace. The railway officials said the majority of the construction work has been completed. The redevelopment works were awarded to Girdharilal Construction Private Limited at a cost of Rs 700 crore for completion in 36 months.
