A dance programme with five Russian women organised by a realtor’s family during a ‘Valima’ wedding reception at Noori function palace in Chandrayangutta on Saturday landed the bridegroom in trouble with the police detaining him along with his cousin. Apart from the bridegroom, Yahiya Bin Salam Bahamaid and his cousin Abdullah Bahamaid, the police took into custody the function hall owner and a music system operator. One Venkat, who works in the Telugu film industry, had brought the women from Russia.
A few dancers from Bollywood film industry were also brought to perform at the reception. Following a complaint related to noise pollution near the hall, a police patrolling vehicle went to the premises and stopped the dance. However, after midnight, the organizers resumed the dance,
prompting the police to again reach the hall and detain the bridegroom and others. After the reception, the Russians left for their country on an early morning flight on Sunday.
A makeshift ramp was put up at the marriage hall to enable the dancers to perform. Traffic movement was also disrupted near the marriage hall for a while as a galaxy of politicians, including a couple of MLAs, and other guests attended the reception.
The police booked a case against the bridegroom and the others under Sections 294 (obscene acts or words in public) and 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of IPC and detained them. A senior official said that Venkat, who roped in the dancers, was still absconding.
