Bhuthkuri Shankar Luke on Wednesday assumed charge as the vice-chairman of TS Minorities Commission in the presence of Home minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, the corporation chairman, people’s representatives and Christian religious heads.
A representative of the Christian community, Luke returns to the post he had held from January 2018 to January 2021 from which time the position remained vacant,
The appointment came on the day Deccan Chronicle reported about the Christian community expressing its anger at the state government (Christians unhappy with BRS govt, say lost hope, July
28).
In an interaction with this correspondent after taking charge, Luke said that his priority would be to bridge the gap between the government and the Christian community.
Luke said, "The challenges are many. Christian religious institutions are being attacked in some rural areas and this should be put an end to."
He added, "Many Christians are unaware of their quota in the government. ‘KCR Kaanuka for Christian women’ is a good augury as this marks the first time ever that nearly 4000 women from the community will be given a grant of Rs one lakh each."
