The Rachakonda Police plan to introduce ‘SHE Patrol’ teams for the safety and security of women across the Commissionerate.
These teams, consisting of SHE Teams personnel, will patrol secluded areas, crime hotspots and highways, among various other places, across Rachakonda. The initiative will be under the aegis of the Rachakonda SHE Teams officials and will function under the direct supervision of Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat, sources said.
According to sources, from now on, SHE Teams, which usually keep a check on women harassment cases, will also patrol all of Outer Ring Road, main roads, highways, toll plazas and other crime-prone areas in the commissionerate limits. “This service will be available round the clock and the prime focus would be on crime-prone areas during odd hours of the day,” a senior official
said.
For now, the initiative will be kicked off with a basic plan and limited force. Depending on the outcome and feedback, improvements will be made. The teams, which will mainly comprise women police personnel, are likely to work in shifts.
The teams, which are to be equipped with vehicles, either a patrol mobile, a motorcycle or both, will operate in two shifts. In most cases, the patrol attend to calls and complaints on women-related issues such as harassment and sexual assault, apart from family disputes, fights between women in residential colonies and so on.
The Rachakonda Police requested women to approach them in case of an emergency. Citizens can approach the Rachakonda SHE Teams through the Rachakonda WhatsApp control number — 9490617111 or Dial 100 whenever they face harassment or are in distress.
