The Rachakonda She Teams said they had taken into custody 36 minors and 15 men for harassing women and counselled them in the past 30 days. Police picked them up from bus stands, railway and Metro Rail stations and from near schools and colleges.
Women Safety Wing DCP T. Usharani said those caught for the first time are counselled in the presence of their parents. Those caught for a second time are produced in the court and sent to remand.
Usharani said the Rachakonda She Teams had received 127 complaints of men stalking and teasing women. The police had conducted decoy operations in certain instances to nab the
accused.
She said that among the complaints received, 25 victims said they were harassed over the phone, 30 via WhatsApp, 20 through social media apps, 24 in person, and 28 others were harassed in different ways.
Police booked 18 criminal cases, 15 petty cases and 94 counselling cases.
Among them was autorickshaw driver Hanma Naik for harassing a homemaker through phone calls. He went to the victim’s house at midnight and demanded that she open the door. When she refused, Naik broke the window glass of her house. The Hayathnagar She Team arrested Hanma Naik, DCP Usharani said.
