Shooting competitions from July 2 in Telangana

Hyderabad: The Telangana Rifle Association will conduct the fourth edition of the Telangana State Shooting Competitions at the SATS Shooting Range in Gachibowli from July 2 to July 5.

The tournament will also serve as the qualifying round for the Pre-Nationals, the organisers informed.

According to Amit Sanghi, the president of the TRA, around 480 shooters from the State have registered for the event that will be held in 89 disciplines. However, the cream of the State shooters will be missing the event as they are competing in various other tournaments.

The competition will be conducted in 10m air-rifle, pistol, 25m pistol and 50m rifle pistol events. It will be held for youth, junior, senior, veteran categories for both men and women.



Besides representations from the districts, the shooters of Army, police and forest departments are also participating in the event. The competitions will be held from July 3 with July 2 and 3 being marked as a training day.

“The sport has seen a steep rise since last year. We had around 200 participants in the last year. Now the number rose to around 500, which is very impressive. We hope to see around 1000 participants by next year,” Sanghi said.

Chetan Reddy, the association member, said that they will provide the gun for the new shooters. “The regular shooters who have been competing will have their own guns. But for new shooters, who do not have guns, we will provide them from the association. We will also provide ammunition,” he added.
