Enforcement Directorate has secured the investigation findings and property details pertaining to renegade naxal and gangster Nayeemudin from the Special Investigation Team of Telangana police. Nayeem was killed in an alleged encounter with the police in Mahbubnagar district in August 2016.
According to SIT officials, the Income Tax department has already served notices to the benamis of Nayeemuddin most of whom are his relatives and associates. A SIT official said, “ED has asked us details regarding the Nayeem case to proceed un der the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. We have handed over the relevant documents.“
According to SIT, Nayeem and his
benamis were holding huge properties worth hundreds of crores. “Nayeem and his associates own 1015 acres, 1.67 lakh square yards of plot area and 27 houses. We have seized the documents pertaining to all these.“
SIT was under severe criticism for not proceeding against the police officials and politicians named in the cases booked against Nayeemudin. Initially , Nayeem was used by cops for getting intelligence on naxals.
He was allegedly having close ties with some top police officials and it has been alleged that he had grown into an extra-constitutional authority forcing the authorities to later bump him off.
