Hyderabad: Shailendra Kumar Joshi has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary for Telangana State with effect from February 1. Joshi who is currently serving as Special Chief Secretary for Irrigation and Catchment Area Development department, will succeed outgoing Chief Secretary Shekhar Prasad Singh.
Born in Uttar Pradesh in 1959, Joshi completed his MTech in Radar Engineering and also holds a doctorate in engineering. He was selected for IAS of Andhra Pradesh cadre in 1984.
Following the formation of Telangana State, he was
allotted to Telangana cadre and ever since has been playing cruicial role in the Irrigation department especially in executing the State government’s flagship projects including Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya besides the prestigious Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme.
Joshi was selected by the Central government from a list of five senior most IAS officers for the coveted post. Sources said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao chose him considering his wide experience as well as his remaining tenure of about two years before his retirement.
